Hello friends! Sorry to have been gone for so long! I took a little trip to the Big D for Thanksgiving. It was just what the doctor ordered, I got to catch up with friends and family, drive my old car, sleep in, go to the mall and eat Mexican food!!!
It took about a day to get back into my compfy groove. I wasn’t sure how this trip would make me feel. Either I would feel recharged and ready to go back to New York or my mom would have to drag me back to the airport kicking and screaming. I bet you are wondering how it ended aren’t you?
Drum roll please……. I must admit that I felt a little of both. Some days I thought, “I can get on that plane, no problem!” and others I thought, “Alright, I will just send for my things, I am home”. Flying back I was less than excited but today was a good day. So there you have it, I really think that is the way it is going to be for my time in New York. Some days will be awesome (like today, I will explain in a moment) and others I will long for Texas and that’s okay because I’m good enough, I’m smart enough and dogawnit, people like me” (a little something for those SNL fans).
So let me tell you about my day today. There is no question that there is a new energy in the city this week! I know I’ve said it before but if you have ever been to New York at Christmas there is a special magic about it. It’s something you can’t explain, you just have to experience it. Can I get an “AMEN” from my peeps who have been here then, Holla! Today was one of those days.
I went to work this morning all bundled up and had a late morning appointment in mid-town (hopstop reference: 40th between Madison and 5th). The city was buzzing. They were preparing the streets for tonight (the Tree Lighting at Rockefeller Center that I just happn to be watching as I am writing this!). I decided after my appointment to walk a few blocks over to 5th and 49th. I took a stroll past Saks Fifth Avenue to see the newly unveiled themed windows and then I turned around and saw the tree. Everyone around me was hustling to get a good view before tonight. It was so cool because after tonight, the city will be much harder to get around, tourists will fill the streets and you will be walking the crowded street shuffle (again, an AMEN from my peeps).
After that I grabbed some lunch and walked over to the NYC public library to catch the M3 (bus). As I was standing at the stop I looked over and noticed people feverishly snapping pictures. I had to walk a few steps to notice that they were filming another movie. Then a man said, “mam, can I get you to come over here, they are about to film and we want a clean shot with no one walking around.” so I was coralled with a number of other people into a corner until they yelled “CUT”. They were shooting the Sex and the City movie coming out sometime in 08. I caught a glimpse of Sarah Jessica Parker and then they were off.
So then I got on the bus and headed back to work. Finished out my day and headed home to write this and watch the Tree lighting serimony! Enjoy the tree and the entry!
PS. I was scolded (while at home) for not having pictures on the blog so pictures are coming very soon (happy AmandaB?).
Love,
Kim
