If I can make it there…

Most of you know my feelings on people in New York littering. I think you have to be pretty darn lazy to leave your trash on the ground or on a table in a public place. There are a milion trash cans in this city. Earlier this week a coworker and I were eating lunch in the park across from my office. As we were eating we noticed a woman sitting on the bench next to me drop her brown bag and tin foil from her sandwich. She did not rush to pick it up. I turned to my coworker and said, “is she going to pick that up?” “No, I don’t think so” when suddenly the woman bent down to grab the bag. “Oh good” I thought, “I won’t have to say something”. When we looked back over we noticed that she grabbed the bag to pull a napkin out and then threw the bag back down on the ground. How absolutely lazy do you have to be?

You know I could not let this go so I looked at the woman, pointed at the litter and said, “You dropped that” when the woman replied, “that’s okay” and went back to wiping her hands. It’s on… “no, it is not okay, I live in this city and this is why we have so much trash and garbage all over the place”. I stood up and grabbed the trash as I walked over to the trash can to throw away my trash as well. This woman did not feel one bit bad, she could care less that she was contributing to the huge rat population here! I really don’t get it. Can you make a citizen’s arrest for littering?
